Qu Dongyu, Director-General of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), assured continued support for Bangladesh’s deep-sea fisheries development and the expansion of agricultural exports, particularly fruits.
The assurance was given during a bilateral meeting on Monday (October 13, local time) at the FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy, with Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus.
During the meeting, the FAO Director-General warmly welcomed Professor Yunus and praised his long-standing contributions to Bangladesh’s agricultural and rural development.
Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus expressed gratitude for FAO’s support and requested assistance to enhance deep-sea fishing and processing capacity, increase fruit exports through improved storage and processing, and strengthen post-harvest management.
FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu assured technical support for the sustainable development of Bangladesh’s agricultural sector and for ensuring food security.
The Chief Adviser is currently participating in the World Food and Agriculture Conference in Rome. He delivered the keynote address at the inauguration of the “World Food Forum (WFF) 2025” held at FAO headquarters on Monday.
Present at the meeting with the Chief Adviser and FAO Director-General were Food Adviser Ali Imam Majumdar, Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter, SDG Coordinator Lamia Morshed, and Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam.
