Dr. Shafiqul Rahman, Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami, expressed his commitment to working in coordination and unity with BNP for the country’s broader interests. He stated that BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman and other senior leaders have also expressed similar views, sending a positive political signal.

On Thursday evening, he visited BNP’s Gulshan office to express condolences over the death of former BNP Chairperson and Prime Minister Khaleda Zia. He met with Tarique Rahman and senior BNP leaders and signed the condolence book.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, he discussed ensuring free, fair, and acceptable elections and referendums amid the country’s important political phase. He emphasized the need for all parties to collectively plan for political stability and a better environment for the next five years.

Dr. Shafiqul Rahman also remembered Khaleda Zia’s political contributions, saying that all political forces should uphold their responsibilities on the foundation of the unity she established.

He highlighted Khaleda Zia’s uncompromising and struggle-driven leadership, noting that her final years were marked by imprisonment and isolation. He alleged that her requests for medical treatment abroad during serious illness were ignored, and the ruling authorities at the time treated her disrespectfully.

Senior leaders from both BNP and Jamaat, including BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Standing Committee members Nazrul Islam Khan, Salahuddin Ahmed, A. Z. M. Zahid Hossain, and Jamaat Assistant Secretary General Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair, were present.
