In Dinajpur’s Hili retail market, the price of fresh chilies has fallen by 40 Taka per kilogram over the past three days. Currently, both local and Indian chilies are being sold at 120 Taka per kg, down from 160 Taka three days ago.
Retailers attribute the price drop to increased supply in the market and higher imports. According to Hili Customs, 132 tons of fresh chilies were imported this week on 13 trucks.
Retail customer Ashraful Islam said, “Such price reductions are beneficial for buyers. Regular market monitoring could help lower the prices of essential commodities further.” Seller Israfill Hossain also noted that the increased availability of local chilies and higher imports from India have contributed to the price decline.
