San Francisco: ChatGPT is set to transform into a new kind of operating system over the next few years, allowing users to access and use various third-party applications. The main figure behind this vision, ChatGPT’s chief Nick Tarle, stated that they are drawing inspiration from the experience of web browsers for this initiative.

Tarle said, “The current ChatGPT is designed to feel like the command-line era. We want users to be able to write, code, or use apps for products and services. But we cannot build everything ourselves. That’s why partnerships with third parties will be established.”

OpenAI is already planning to expand e-commerce activities on the ChatGPT platform by incorporating apps from companies like DoorDash, Uber, and Expedia. Additionally, app developers will be required to follow a “minimal data collection” policy to ensure the security of users’ personal data.

Tarle also emphasized that ChatGPT is not merely a business initiative but part of OpenAI’s research mission—to distribute Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) beneficially for humanity. He said, “ChatGPT is the delivery vehicle that will bring AGI into people’s daily lives.”

Furthermore, ChatGPT plans to introduce a partitioned memory feature for users in the future, which will help them control data sharing. Through this step, ChatGPT will go beyond the limits of chatting and evolve into a versatile platform.
