The AI-based chatbot ChatGPT has set a new record in consumer spending on its mobile platform. According to AppFigures, combined iOS and Android spending has exceeded $3 billion.

Since its iOS launch in May 2023, the majority of this revenue came in 2025. Global spending on ChatGPT’s mobile app reached approximately $2.48 billion this year, a 408% increase from $487 million in 2024. In 2023, revenue was $42.9 million.

It took ChatGPT 31 months to reach $3 billion in consumer spending, faster than TikTok (58 months), Disney Plus (42 months), or HBO Max (46 months). Among AI apps, XAI’s Grok is the closest competitor.

Most revenue comes from paid subscriptions: $20/month ChatGPT Plus and $200 ChatGPT Pro packages. ChatGPT has also launched its own app store, with advertising considered as a potential revenue source.

Experts say this rapid growth shows that AI technology has moved beyond experimental adoption to mainstream consumer acceptance.
