Amid ongoing Middle East conflicts, the state-owned Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) ship Banglar Joyjatra departed from Sharjah Port on Wednesday night, heading to Ras Al Khair Port, Saudi Arabia.

BSC officials stated that Captain Shafiqul Islam said, “Last night, we lifted anchor from the Sharjah offshore and set sail for Ras Al Khair Port. The distance is approximately 360 nautical miles. We hope to reach our destination by Friday night.”

The ship is taking a direct route via the Persian Gulf to avoid the risks associated with the Strait of Hormuz. Previously, it had arrived at Sharjah Port on March 12 but had to remain there for 21 days for safety reasons.

Before going to Sharjah, the ship planned to transit through the Strait of Hormuz from Jebel Ali Port, but the UAE Coast Guard advised against this route, so the ship returned.

Commodore Mahmudul Malek, Managing Director of BSC, stated that the ship’s final destination after reaching Ras Al Khair is not yet determined. It may carry fertilizers to Brazil, South Africa, or Mozambique, but the chartering company has not confirmed the destination.

The safe journey of this export ship, significant for Bangladesh, is expected to contribute to the country’s economy.
