Bangladesh Bank has expressed serious concern over reports circulating on social media about the spread of fake currency notes in the country. The central bank warned that such misinformation can create public confusion and unrest, potentially harming economic stability.

In a statement on Wednesday, Bangladesh Bank said, “Producing, carrying, or transacting with counterfeit notes is completely illegal and a punishable offense.” The bank also noted that it is working closely with law enforcement agencies to monitor and prevent such crimes through strict surveillance and regular enforcement measures.

The bank has urged the public to be more cautious in identifying fake notes. The statement provided four key guidelines to help detect and prevent counterfeit notes. These include checking for watermarks, security threads, uneven printing, color-changing ink, microprinting, and other security features when receiving currency.

Bangladesh Bank also recommended conducting large transactions through banking channels. For cash transactions, it advised using digital methods and immediately reporting any suspicious notes to local law enforcement or the national emergency number 999.

The statement emphasized the ongoing campaign under the slogan: "Recognize genuine notes, ensure safe transactions," aimed at raising public awareness. Additionally, citizens are encouraged to visit Bangladesh Bank’s website to learn about the security features of authentic notes.

The institution stressed that public awareness and vigilance are crucial to maintaining the country’s economic security and stability.
