Students from Dhaka College and Dhaka City College once again faced off in the Science Lab area of the capital. The clash, which began around 11:30 am on Thursday (21 August), created extreme tension in the area, leaving at least 10 people, including police personnel, injured.
Eyewitnesses reported that during the clash, a City College student was stabbed and was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in serious condition. In addition, two Dhaka College students—Antor and Apon—sustained head and nose injuries. Apon is known to be a second-year higher secondary student. Some of the injured were also admitted to Popular Medical College Hospital.
The clash caused panic in the surrounding area. Traffic on the road from Science Lab to New Market was blocked for a long time. Police later arrived in the afternoon and brought the situation under control.
Shah Muhammad Tarikuzzaman, Assistant Commissioner of the Dhanmondi zone, said that students from both colleges suddenly took to the streets and got involved in the clash. Several police officers were also injured. Currently, the situation is under control, but additional law enforcement personnel have been deployed in the area.
Reports about the cause of the clash vary. Some say the incident originated from a dispute over a coaching center, while others claim tensions escalated due to a football game between the two groups.
