In the Science Lab area of Dhaka, students of Dhaka College and Dhaka City College were involved in a series of repeated chases and clashes. The incident, which began around 11:30 am on Thursday, left at least 10 people injured, including police officers, according to reports.
Eyewitnesses said that initially, the students from both colleges came onto the streets and started throwing bricks at each other. The situation escalated when they began chasing each other with sticks. At one point, police arrived at the scene and tried to intervene, but the agitated students even targeted the police, injuring four officers.
The clashes continued for more than two hours, causing traffic from Science Lab to New Market–Dhanmondi to be disrupted. Later, around 2:45 pm, the situation was partially brought under control, and traffic resumed. Currently, police are deployed in front of City College, where its students remain, while Dhaka College students are staying inside their campus.
Dhanmondi Additional Deputy Commissioner Jisanul Haque said that traffic was disrupted for nearly an hour due to the clash, but the situation was later brought under control. He added that the reason behind the clash is under investigation.
Meanwhile, Senior Assistant Commissioner of DMP Dhanmondi, Shah Mostofa Tarikuzzaman, mentioned that the incident stemmed from a verbal altercation between the two sides at a coaching center a few days ago. However, other sources indicate that tensions had also arisen over a football game.
