Bollywood actor Aamir Khan has found himself at the centre of fresh controversy following his third marriage.

After marrying his longtime friend Gauri Spratt, discussions about their relationship spread widely on social media and in various circles.

Some critics described the marriage as “Love Jihad”, while a religious organisation also raised objections. Amid the controversy, Aamir Khan has spoken publicly about his position for the first time.

In a recent interview, Aamir said that members of his family have always married people from different religious backgrounds, but religious conversion was never an issue in any case.

He said both of his sisters married into Hindu families, his daughter chose a Hindu partner, and one of his cousins married a Christian woman.

According to him, all these relationships were built on mutual respect and understanding.

Regarding religious conversion, Aamir said that neither his former wife Reena Dutta, former wife Kiran Rao, nor current wife Gauri Spratt changed their religion because of marriage.

He said all of his marriages were legally conducted as civil marriages.

He also said that although Gauri was born into a Christian family, she does not regularly practise religious rituals. They began their married life while respecting each other’s personal beliefs.

Earlier, the head of Muslim Personal Darul Ifta Shahir, Mufti Maulana Ibrahim Hussain, objected to Aamir’s marriage with Gauri Spratt.

He said according to Islamic rules, a Muslim man cannot marry a non-Muslim woman unless she accepts Islam. His statement created further controversy.

On July 5, 61-year-old Aamir Khan married 47-year-old Gauri Spratt in an intimate family ceremony at his residence in Bandra, Mumbai.

Around 150 guests, including family members, close friends, and selected people from the film industry, attended the event.

Reports said that although Aamir and Gauri first met nearly 25 years ago, they became close again more than two years ago. Their long friendship eventually turned into marriage.

This is Aamir Khan’s third marriage. He married Reena Dutta in 1986, and the relationship ended in 2002.

Later, he married filmmaker Kiran Rao in 2005, but they separated in 2021 through mutual agreement.

Despite the controversy, Aamir Khan has maintained a positive stance regarding his personal life and said that mutual respect, love, and freedom are the most important foundations of any relationship.

Through his statement, he highlighted the message that relationships are built on people, not religion.
