Born on 24 December 1952 in Bansh Bari, Tongibari, Munshiganj, he inherited music from his family. Both parents were involved in music, and he trained in classical music under family guidance.
Ali never regarded film music as secondary art; he treated it as a distinct medium. His compositions remain timeless, blending classical music and folk elements with modern thought. Songs like Prothom Bangladesh Amar, Shesh Bangladesh Amar reflect patriotism, memory, and identity.
He nurtured new talent, mentoring singers such as Konokchapa, Kumar Bishwajit, Samina Chowdhury, Tapan Chowdhury, Ayub Bachchu, and Hasan. He composed nearly 5,000 songs for films, radio, and TV. His musical legacy persists across generations. Alauddin Ali passed away in 2020 after prolonged illness, leaving an indelible mark on Bengali music.
