Norwegian actress Renate Reinsve once considered quitting acting for another career. Today, she is at the center of international cinema discussions and is even mentioned in Oscar debates. Critics praise her latest role in Sentimental Value.

Her breakthrough came in July 2021 when The Worst Person in the World by Joachim Trier premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. Reinsve, playing the lead for the first time, was overwhelmed by critical acclaim, which physically affected her. However, the film won her the Best Actress award at Cannes and numerous nominations, including BAFTA and the Oscars.

Reinsve has since maintained a balance between praise and criticism. She also starred in A Different Man alongside Sebastian Stan and returned to Cannes this year with Trier’s Sentimental Value, portraying Nora, a melancholic actress navigating family, art, and relationships. Her childhood in rural Norway was marked by feeling different, facing rejection, and struggling to find opportunities in film, even contemplating carpentry. A small role in Trier’s Oslo, August 31 changed her career trajectory, followed by the role of Julie, which secured her a permanent place in global cinema.
