Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky has made it clear that China will not be included among the countries providing security guarantees in any potential future peace agreement with Russia.
Recently, discussions have taken place among the United States and European leaders regarding the formation of a post-war peacekeeping force in Ukraine. Following these talks, Zelensky told the Kyiv-based Kyiv Post on Thursday, August 21,
"Why is China not considered for security guarantees? First, they did not help us at the start of the war. Second, they supported Russia by opening drone markets for them."
Although Beijing has consistently called for a peaceful resolution to the conflict, its economic ties and cooperation with Russia have raised doubts among Western countries about its neutrality.
Zelensky emphasized that strong international security guarantees are necessary to ensure Russia cannot launch future attacks, but such guarantees should come only from countries that have supported Kyiv since the 2022 invasion.
Earlier, in April, Zelensky directly accused China of assisting Russia in weapons supply and joint arms production for the first time.
Meanwhile, Mao Ning, spokesperson for China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, rejected Zelensky's allegations as "baseless" and "politically motivated."
It is worth noting that the United States has also previously accused China of supplying components needed for the production of Russian missiles, tanks, warplanes, and other military equipment.
