International Desk | PNN:
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has alleged that the drones and missiles Russia is using against his country contain components manufactured by Western companies.
In a post on social media on Monday, Zelensky stated that hundreds of weapons used in Russian attacks over the past two nights contained more than ten thousand components produced by companies from the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Switzerland, Japan, South Korea, the Netherlands, Taiwan, and China.
Providing detailed figures, he said, “The attacking drones contained approximately 100,688 foreign-made components, Iskanders had about 1,500, Kinzhal missiles contained 192, and Kalibr missiles had 405 components.”
The Ukrainian President specifically named U.S. and U.K. companies, which is significant because these two countries play a key role in providing military and financial support to Ukraine against Russian aggression.
Zelensky elaborated that U.S. companies manufacture converters, unmanned aerial vehicles, and microelectronics for KH-101 missiles, Shahed-type drones, and Kinzhal missiles, while British firms produce microcomputers for drone flight control.
For a long time, Zelensky has been urging countries worldwide to stop funding and supplying equipment for Russia’s war. He stated that Ukraine is now preparing to impose new sanctions against “Russia and those assisting it in its war.” He also mentioned that detailed information about each company and product has been shared with Ukraine’s partners.
Ahead of a G7 sanctions coordinators’ meeting, Zelensky called for stricter measures to close loopholes in trade restrictions.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian intelligence official Oleh Oleksandrov said over the weekend that Ukraine has evidence suggesting that China is helping Moscow identify targets in Ukraine. He claimed that there is high-level cooperation between Russia and China for satellite surveillance over Ukrainian territory to locate and target strategic objects.
