Former US President Donald Trump claimed that the United States conducted a “major attack” in Venezuela, detaining the country’s President Nicolás Maduro and his wife. He wrote on his social media platform Truth Social that the operation was coordinated with US law enforcement agencies.

Earlier, the Venezuelan government accused the US of attacking various military and civilian sites, rejecting Washington’s claims of “military aggression.” President Maduro’s administration declared a national state of emergency following the attack.

Venezuelan Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino said in a video message on Saturday that the country would resist the presence of foreign forces. He stated that civilian areas were targeted and casualty data was being collected.

During the US operation, explosions and power outages occurred in Caracas and other major cities. Colombian President Gustavo Petro reported damage in several Venezuelan locations. Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel condemned the US, calling it a “criminal attack,” and urged urgent international intervention.

Following the news of the US action, Venezuelan opposition leaders have not yet made any official comments. Meanwhile, the US Embassy in Bogotá issued a warning to its citizens, advising them to leave Venezuela, and raised the country’s travel advisory to the highest level, “Level 4 – Do Not Travel.”
