PNN News Desk | Dhaka:
In Dhaka’s various retail markets, the prices of daily commodities have surged significantly, allegedly due to recent rains. The price of boiler chicken has reached 200 BDT per kg, up from 180–185 BDT just two weeks ago. Golden chicken is being sold for 310–320 BDT, Pakistani cockerel for 280–290 BDT, and local chicken is selling for up to 650 BDT per kg.
Egg prices have also increased, with half-dozen eggs being sold for 48–52 BDT. Prices of potatoes, local onions, and vegetables have also risen compared to last week. Pointed gourd (potol) is priced at 70 BDT, round eggplant at 160 BDT, long eggplant at 100 BDT, cucumber at 80 BDT, bitter gourd at 100 BDT, and ridge gourd at 70 BDT per kg.
Buyers are also facing pressure in the fish market. Medium-sized Hilsa is selling for 2,300–2,500 BDT, Rui fish for 350–400 BDT, and shrimp for 1,000 BDT per kg.
Although these uncontrolled price hikes are causing distress among consumers, vendors report that there is no shortage of supply in the market.
