Under ICC scrutiny: Subrayen, South Africa suffers a major setback

South Africa achieved a record 98-run victory in the first match of the three-match ODI series against Australia. However, the celebration was overshadowed by bad news. Debutant spinner Prenelan Subrayen’s bowling action came under suspicion from the match’s two umpires, leading South Africa to exclude him from the remaining two matches of the series.

In the first ODI, Subrayen bowled 10 overs, conceding 46 runs and taking 1 wicket. During the match, umpires Chris Gaffaney and Sam Nogasky expressed concerns about his bowling action. According to regulations, Subrayen must have his action tested at an ICC-approved lab within 14 days. Until the results are received, he is allowed to bowl, but the team’s coach and board decided to keep him out of play to reduce mental pressure.

South Africa coach Shukri Conrad said, “There’s no restriction on playing before the test, but we believe it’s important to keep him mentally stable away from unnecessary scrutiny. We plan to have his testing done in Brisbane as soon as possible.”

South Africa currently leads the ongoing series 1-0. The second ODI will take place tomorrow (Friday) in Mackay, followed by the third and final ODI on August 24, where they will face Australia again.
