International Desk | PNN:
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has stated that the meeting with former US President Donald Trump and leaders of Arab and Muslim countries was “fruitful” and that he is “satisfied” with its outcome. The meeting, held on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, focused on ways to end the Gaza war.

Trump also described the meeting as successful, noting that “all major players except Israel” participated in the discussions. Leaders from Egypt, Indonesia, Jordan, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates were present.

US-based media reports indicate that Trump proposed sending peacekeeping forces from Arab and Muslim countries to Gaza, in which case Israeli troops would withdraw. Discussions also covered the creation of funds for reconstruction and humanitarian aid.

The Emirati state news agency reported that the talks prioritized ensuring a ceasefire, releasing prisoners, and addressing the humanitarian crisis.

Although Israel did not participate directly, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was informed about the plan. While the proposal hints at the future role of the Palestinian Authority, Hamas has been completely excluded.

The meeting comes amid a two-year-long war in Gaza that has claimed over 65,000 lives. Observers note that amid the global wave of recognition for a Palestinian state and calls for a swift end to the conflict, the United States is increasingly finding itself diplomatically isolated.
