Three Police Sources Arrested with 48 Bottles of Phensedyl in Lohagara; Accused SI Withdrawn

Lohagara, Chattogram: Sub-Inspector (SI) Kamal Hossain, who was in the spotlight following the arrest of three police sources with 48 bottles of Phensedyl, has been withdrawn from Lohagara police station and attached to the Police Lines. He was recalled from the station on Friday (22 August) around 7:30 pm. This was confirmed by Rabiul Alam Khan, Investigating Officer of Lohagara Police Station.

Notably, SI Kamal had received an award from the Chattogram District Superintendent of Police, Saiful Islam Santu, on 22 April this year as the district’s best drug-recovery officer.

What Happened?

On Thursday (21 August) around 1:30 am, three individuals were caught by locals at the Chunti Bazar area on the Chattogram–Cox’s Bazar highway while trafficking Phensedyl. They were later handed over to the army. Authorities recovered 48 bottles of Phensedyl and a private car used in the trafficking.

The arrested individuals are:

• Ramiz Uddin (35), Sukhsheri, Amirabad Ward No. 7, Lohagara

• Nazim Uddin (45), Hossain Ali Matbor Bari, Lohagara Sadar

• Tajul Islam (49), Gojaria Thana, Munshiganj

Sources’ Allegations

Ramiz Uddin claimed that all three were police sources. He alleged that SI Kamal Hossain provided them with the Phensedyl and instructed them to deliver it to Aziznagar in the Chittagong Hill Tracts. He further claimed that SI Kamal was traveling in a private car at the rear, which also contained yaba tablets, but fled when their front car was stopped.

Local Allegations

Eyewitnesses reported that some police personnel at Lohagara Police Station have long been accused of being involved in drug trafficking despite showing drug seizures in official reports. On Thursday, based on reliable information, locals and students monitored the Chunti Bazar area for eight hours and caught the police sources red-handed with the drugs.

Investigation Underway

Rabiul Alam Khan, Investigating Officer of Lohagara Police Station, said, “The accused SI Kamal has been withdrawn. An investigation is ongoing, and if the allegations are proven, appropriate action will be taken.”
