Three gold smugglers arrested in Jashore with gold bars worth Tk 65 million

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested three individuals along with 26 gold bars worth approximately Tk 65 million in an operation in Jashore.

The operation was conducted early Thursday (May 7) at the Nilganj Bridge area on the Jashore–Narail highway.

The arrested individuals are: Roni (36) of Rajnagar village in Sharsha upazila, Abdul Gani (54) of Uttar Koyerapara village in Chowgachha upazila, and Israil (46) of Bagdanga village in Sadar upazila.

According to BGB sources, acting on a tip-off, a search was conducted at around 4:30 am in the Nilganj Bridge area. During the search, 26 gold bars weighing 3 kg 48 grams were recovered, hidden inside a private car using a special method.

The estimated market value of the seized gold is around Tk 63,947,000, BGB said. The private car used in smuggling, several mobile phones, and cash were also confiscated.

Preliminary interrogation revealed that the gold bars were collected from a syndicate in Abdullahpur and Uttara areas of Dhaka. They were being transported to be smuggled into India through the Chowgachha border in Jashore.

BGB further stated that the three arrested individuals have been handed over to Kotwali Police Station in Jashore for legal proceedings. Investigation is ongoing to identify others involved in the incident.
