PNN News Desk | Dhaka:
In a meeting held today, Thursday, at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka, Professor Ali Riaz, Vice-Chairman of the National Consensus Commission, stated that the Commission does not have the authority to implement the July Accord. He clarified that the Commission will not impose any decisions but will discuss with political parties and submit recommendations to the government.

Ali Riaz said, “We have repeatedly discussed the process of implementing the July Accord. A panel of experts was formed for this, which included former judges, lawyers, and law academics from various levels. Through discussions with them, we have understood that only certain parts of the Accord can be implemented by an interim government.”

He added that the Commission’s role is limited to collecting opinions from political parties and presenting them as recommendations to the government. “We do not intend to impose any decisions,” he emphasized.

About 30 political parties participated in the meeting, including BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, NCP, and Islami Andolan. Participants expressed their opinions on various aspects of implementing the Accord.

The meeting was chaired by Monir Haider, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser (National Consensus Commission). Commission members Justice Emdadul Haque, Badiul Alam Majumdar, Iftekharuzzaman, and Ayub Mia were also present.
