In Kalogi, South Kordofan, Sudan, continued attacks by the RSF (Rapid Support Forces) have killed at least 47 people, most of them children, and injured around 50 others, according to top Sudanese military officials cited by Al Jazeera.
On Thursday, RSF first attacked a kindergarten. When locals gathered to rescue the injured, a second assault targeted them. Bombs were also dropped on the city hospital and a government building the same day. Several critically injured victims may increase the death toll.
Earlier, Sudan Doctors Network reported that at least nine people, including four children and two women, were killed in a drone attack. The group accused RSF and their ally SPLM-North (al-Hilu) of jointly attacking civilian sites, including schools, violating international human rights law.
The UN warned Thursday that South Kordofan could face another wave of mass atrocities. Intense fighting between RSF and SAF is worsening the humanitarian crisis.
Following the RSF takeover of El-Fashir last month, evidence of mass killings was confirmed via satellite imagery. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres described it as “a real picture of war crimes.” In response, the EU imposed sanctions on several RSF leaders, including deputy Abdurrahim Dagalo.
Sudan’s civil war has continued for three years, with both sides accused of war crimes, deepening the humanitarian disaster.
