Yesterday (Monday), Shopify experienced a major technical disruption affecting millions of merchants’ operations. Many were unable to complete online transactions.

According to Shopify’s status page, the company identified the issue and resolved it. The disruption occurred on Cyber Monday, one of the busiest online shopping days of the year. Shopify is one of the most widely used e-commerce platforms globally, accounting for over 10% of all e-commerce transactions in the United States.

The outage began at around 6:45 AM (Pacific Time), preventing some merchants from logging in and accessing point-of-sale (POS) systems, disrupting transaction processing. Shopify stated that the root cause was login authentication flow issues, affecting POS logins. The situation is now stabilizing, and the company is monitoring it closely.

It is estimated that roughly 4,000 merchants were affected based on user reports on Downdetector. Shopify expects normal operations to resume soon.
