Secret Yaba Production Laboratory Discovered in Residential Building in Tongi; One Arrested

Police have discovered a secret laboratory allegedly set up to manufacture yaba inside a residential building in the Paghar area of Tongi, Gazipur. Various raw materials, chemical substances and modern equipment used in drug production were seized from a separate laboratory established inside the house. Police have arrested a man identified as Nazmul Islam Bappi, 32, who is alleged to have owned the facility.

A team from Tongi East Police Station conducted the raid at the house in the Alertek area of Paghar at around 1:00 am on Friday (October 30) as part of a special anti-drug operation.

The arrested individual, Nazmul Islam Bappi, is the son of Taizul Islam, a resident of the Paghar area.

Police said the operation was conducted based on confidential information under the leadership of Tongi East Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Maksudul Alam. During a search of the building, officers discovered a concealed laboratory allegedly established for the production of yaba.

According to the initial investigation, Nazmul learned the process of manufacturing yaba by gathering information and studying various materials online. He had reportedly been operating the laboratory for approximately six months. However, during preliminary interrogation, the arrested individual claimed that full-scale drug production had not yet begun at the facility.

Tongi East Police Station OC Mohammad Maksudul Alam said various chemical substances and equipment used in yaba production had been recovered from the laboratory. Police initially suspect that the facility was being prepared for large-scale yaba tablet production.

He further said investigators were examining the extent of preparations for drug manufacturing and whether anyone else was involved in the operation. Authorities are also collecting detailed information about the seized materials and equipment.

Police said legal proceedings against Nazmul Islam Bappi were underway in connection with the incident.
