PNN News Desk | Dhaka:
Salahuddin Ahmed, a member of the BNP Standing Committee, has congratulated the winners of the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election. He said, “I personally congratulate those who have won the DUCSU election. This is the way of democracy.”

He made the remarks as the chief guest at a discussion session organized at the Muktiyoddha Hall of the Institution of Diploma Engineers Bangladesh (IDEB) in Kakrail, Dhaka, on Wednesday, on the occasion of the 47th founding anniversary of the Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal.

Mentioning some irregularities in the DUCSU election, he said that since the election process resumed after a long time, there were some errors and deviations. At the same time, he raised questions about the participation of Islami Chhatra Shibir, noting that, to his knowledge, the organization did not take part in the DUCSU election.

Discussing DUCSU’s influence in national politics, Salahuddin Ahmed said that in the past, DUCSU’s Vice Presidents and General Secretaries have gone on to lead in national politics; some have entered parliament, while others are still engaged in activism. He wished a bright future for the newly elected students.

He further emphasized that a new political culture must be cultivated to safeguard democracy in the country. To prevent the rise of fascism, autocracy, or one-party rule, it is essential to maintain democratic practices.

Highlighting the importance of student politics, the BNP leader said that universities are key institutions for developing national leadership, and political engagement should be present in educational campuses.

The discussion session was presided over by Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal President Afroza Abbas and included speeches by BNP Standing Committee member EZM Zahid Hossain and other leaders. Leaders and activists from various levels of the Mohila Dal were also present.
