International Desk | PNN:
During Russia’s anti-Ukraine air campaign, more than a dozen drones entered Polish airspace, which were subsequently shot down by Polish and NATO forces. Early Wednesday, Poland and NATO became directly involved in the confrontation for the first time.

According to a statement from the Polish military, fighter jets were deployed immediately after the drones’ entry, and the targets were destroyed using weapons. Efforts are currently underway to collect the wreckage of the downed drones.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk confirmed that the military is actively responding to multiple airspace violations. He stated, “I am in regular contact with the President and the Minister of Defense. The operational commander has reported directly to me.”

Polish and NATO fighter jets are patrolling the skies, while ground-based air defense and radar units have been placed on high alert.

Separately, in Poland’s eastern Wierzyki region, a drone or similar object struck a residential building, but no casualties were reported. The local mayor confirmed that the roof of the building was damaged, with images published by local media.

Ukraine has claimed that Russia is using such attacks to test Western responses. The incident has raised renewed concern within European security circles.
