At least 14 people, including three children, were killed in Russian drone and missile attacks overnight in Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv. Several dozen others were injured in the strikes. Local authorities reported that multiple residential buildings collapsed, and large fires broke out during the early morning attack on Thursday.
Powerful explosions shook Kyiv throughout the night, with flames lighting up the sky and smoke plumes visible in various areas. In the Darnytskyi district, a five-story residential building was directly hit and reduced to rubble.
Timur Takachenko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, said, “Everything has been destroyed. Last night, the Russian terrorist state carried out a horrific attack on our capital.” He confirmed that the children killed were aged two, 14, and 17.
The city administration reported that at least 48 people were injured. Rescue teams are still trying to pull people from the rubble. Damage has been reported at least in 20 locations across the city.
In central Kyiv, a main road was littered with broken glass, and fires broke out in many high-rise buildings. Videos and photos circulating on social media showed flames and smoke coming out of various apartments.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko announced that Friday will be observed as a day of mourning. On that day, the national flag will fly at half-mast, and all public gatherings will be suspended.
