Independent MP Rumin Farhana has demanded that the trade agreement signed with the United States be presented in Parliament.

She raised the issue during a point of order in Wednesday’s parliamentary session.

She said discussions between the US ambassador and the commerce minister highlighted trade imbalance issues, import-export relations, agricultural imports, energy commitments, and investment policies.

She expressed concern that some conditions of the agreement might conflict with national interests.

She also questioned the timing of the agreement before national elections, saying such important deals should be made by an elected government.

The Speaker interrupted her, stating that the issue does not fall under point of order and advised her to submit a proper notice.

Rumin Farhana later said the agreement could still be cancelled within a certain timeframe and urged discussion in Parliament.

The Speaker again rejected the point of order request.

The issue has sparked further debate in Parliament.
