PNN News Desk | Dhaka:
Students from Dhaka Polytechnic Institute and other government and private technical institutions have lifted the roadblock that started around 11:15 AM at Satrasta intersection in Tejgaon, Dhaka. Traffic has returned to normal on the intersection after the blockade was withdrawn.
The students, protesting under the banner of the “Technical Student Movement Bangladesh,” stated that while they have temporarily lifted the roadblock, they will continue to remain at the intersection. Vehicles are now allowed to pass through the unblocked portions of the road.
The four main demands of the students are:
Ensure maximum punishment for those publicly threatening to kill the Technical Rights Movement activists.
Stop state-supported actions favoring unreasonable demands of BSc Engineering students.
Full implementation of the six rational demands of the Technical Student Movement Bangladesh.
Implementation of one-channel engineering education.
The blockade had caused severe traffic congestion in the area, which has eased somewhat following the withdrawal.
Md. Mashfiq Islam, President of the Technical Student Movement Bangladesh, said that teachers also expressed solidarity with the students’ movement. Four institutions, including Dhaka Polytechnic Institute and Dhaka Women’s Polytechnic Institute, supported today’s protest.
