The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party has initiated countrywide protests demanding the release of former Prime Minister and party founder Imran Khan, who is currently imprisoned on corruption charges. The movement, which started on Tuesday, August 5, also calls for the release of other jailed party leaders and activists.

PTI senior leader and former Speaker Asad Qaiser declared that this is not a one-day protest but a sustained campaign that will continue until the current government falls. He emphasized the goal of restoring true public representation.

Provincial PTI branches have been directed to organize rallies, processions, awareness campaigns, and other forms of protest. However, the government has responded with a crackdown, deploying security forces, arresting many PTI members, and imposing Section 144 bans in several areas, especially in Punjab and Kashmir.

PTI officials claim over 200 operations have been conducted against their members, with many released only after signing affidavits. Senator Ali Zafar stated that Imran Khan is ready to serve a 10-year jail term in the interest of law and country but will not succumb to false cases or prolonged legal proceedings.

PTI insists that the corruption charges against Imran Khan are politically motivated attempts by the government to suppress opposition.

The party vows to sustain the protests nationwide, aiming to mobilize the public to remove what they call a “fake government” and establish “true democracy.”

The future impact of this movement depends on PTI’s organizational strength, popular support, and government reaction. One thing is clear: Imran Khan’s case has reignited significant political turmoil in Pakistan.
