After weeks of fruitless ceasefire negotiations, Hamas on Thursday morning submitted its response—on behalf of itself and other Palestinian factions—to the mediators. Israel has stated that it is currently reviewing the response.
According to a report by AFP, Hamas’s reply includes amendments related to the terms of the ceasefire, such as conditions for humanitarian aid entry, areas from which Israeli forces should withdraw, and guarantees for a permanent end to the conflict.
For several weeks, Egypt and Qatar have been mediating talks between Israel and Hamas regarding a ceasefire and the release of hostages. However, the negotiations repeatedly reached a stalemate as both sides remained firm in their respective positions. Whether this new response from Hamas will bring any progress to the stalled talks remains to be seen.
