On the occasion of Pahela Baishakh, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is visiting Tangail. During this visit, he will inaugurate the pre-pilot implementation of the “Farmer Card” distribution program and participate in several other events.
According to sources from the Prime Minister’s Office, on Tuesday (14 April) at 8:00 am, he will leave Dhaka by road for Tangail. At 10:00 am, he will visit the shrine of Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani in Santosh. At 10:30 am, he will formally inaugurate the “Farmer Card” program at Shahid Maruf Stadium.
Later, at around 12:15 pm, he will inaugurate the agriculture fair at Shahid Smriti Municipal Park in the city. After a prayer break at the circuit house, he is expected to leave for Dhaka at 2:00 pm.
The Department of Agricultural Extension said that in the initial phase, 1,470 farmers from three wards of Gharinda Union of Tangail Sadar Upazila will receive this card. At the inauguration event, 100 farmers will be present, and 15 of them will directly receive cards from the Prime Minister.
On Monday, visiting Shahid Maruf Stadium and the municipal park area, it was seen that preparations were in full swing. Stage construction, decoration, and cleaning work were ongoing. Beautification efforts were also underway throughout the city.
Agriculture Minister Mohammad Amin Ur Rashid said during his visit to the venue that the Farmer Card project will be implemented in phases. First, pre-pilot activities will begin in selected areas, then pilot projects, and gradually it will be expanded nationwide. He expressed hope that within four years, all farmers in the country will receive this card.
Local political leaders said that this is the first visit of Tarique Rahman to Tangail after becoming Prime Minister. There is widespread enthusiasm among party activists in the district.
Authorities have also taken overall security preparations. Officials believe this visit and the Farmer Card program will add a new dimension to the agricultural sector.
