Pickup driver killed in Belab, Dhaka–Sylhet Highway accident

On the Dhaka–Sylhet Highway in Belab, Narsingdi, a head-on collision between a pickup van and a covered van resulted in the death of the pickup driver. Two others were injured in the incident.

The accident occurred on Friday morning (26 December) in the Khamarchor area of Belab Upazila. The collision was severe, causing the pickup van to be completely damaged. Pickup driver Rubel (30), a resident of Gournadi, Barishal, died on the spot.

The injured are Shawon (18), son of Arshad Ali from Barhatta, Netrokona, and Nure Alam (35), son of Majid Mia from Chandina, Comilla. Locals rescued them and admitted them to a nearby hospital.

According to eyewitnesses and police, the covered van, traveling from Dhaka to Sylhet, collided head-on with the pickup van in Khamarchor. The pickup van was mangled in the crash.

Upon receiving the news, police from Bhairab Highway Station arrived at the scene, recovered the deceased, and took him to the station. The covered van involved was seized, but its driver fled the scene.

Bhairab Highway Station Officer-in-Charge Shahabur Rahman stated that legal action is being taken regarding the accident and efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing driver.
