Political instability in France has deepened following the resignation of new Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu. Lecornu, who had assumed office just a few weeks ago, submitted his resignation on Monday, which was accepted by President Emmanuel Macron.
Lecornu had announced his cabinet list on Sunday evening, but the list sparked widespread discontent among both opposition parties and Macron’s allies. The first meeting of the new cabinet was scheduled for Monday afternoon, but he resigned before it could take place.
Lecornu, who rose from Minister of Defense to Prime Minister, was a close ally of Macron. However, this marks the fifth time Macron has changed his Prime Minister in two years, highlighting the ongoing political instability in France.
