New discussions have begun in Cairo, Egypt, aiming to end nearly two years of conflict in Gaza. U.S. President Donald Trump has called on the parties involved, urging, “Find a solution as soon as possible.”

Hamas has stated that their delegation is led by Khalil al-Hayya, who was recently targeted in an assassination attempt by Israeli forces in Qatar. On the other hand, the Israeli delegation includes several senior security and political officials.

The talks will mainly focus on the first phase of the 20-point plan proposed by the United States. Meanwhile, Israel has carried out a new attack in Gaza. The most recent strike occurred near Al-Rum School in the Tal al-Hawa area of Gaza City, injuring several children.

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) reports that nearly 80 percent of Gaza’s infrastructure has been destroyed or damaged during the two-year conflict. Health services have collapsed, educational institutions are on the brink of destruction, and children’s mental health has suffered severely.

Meanwhile, the Israeli Ministry of Defense has reported that at least 1,152 Israeli soldiers have been killed in the conflict so far, with 42 percent under the age of 21.

In the Cairo discussions, Hamas is expected to seek guarantees regarding the withdrawal of Israeli forces, governance, and demilitarization. Israel’s primary focus will be on the release of detained individuals.

Across Europe, millions of people have taken to the streets to protest against Israel’s actions in Gaza. In Amsterdam, Netherlands, the largest demonstration drew around 250,000 participants.

Human Rights Watch (HRW) has criticized Trump’s plan, stating that it does not provide a solution to prevent genocide or war crimes. The organization has urged the international community to immediately impose an arms embargo and assist the International Criminal Court’s proceedings.

Analysts believe that Trump personally seeks success in these talks, which could potentially differ from previous failed initiatives. However, the key question remains whether the parties can overcome their entrenched positions and move toward lasting peace.
