Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, in a written statement to the National Assembly, noted that since the formation of the interim government in Bangladesh, both countries have seen positive progress in trade and economic cooperation.
The report stated that the new shipping service has improved logistics efficiency and reduced transportation costs. Moreover, since September 29, 2024, Bangladesh has lifted the mandatory 100% inspection requirement for Pakistani goods, boosting mutual trade confidence.
Dar further mentioned that during the 9th Joint Economic Commission meeting held in Dhaka on October 27, 2024, both sides discussed expanding trade, investment, and connectivity. As part of the new framework, Pakistan exported 50,000 tons of rice to Bangladesh in January 2025 and pledged to export a total of 200,000 tons. Exports will continue in the coming months under this arrangement.
Additionally, over 200 Pakistani companies participated in Bangladesh’s International Trade Fair and Denim Expo, reflecting growing Pakistani interest in Bangladesh’s textile and manufacturing sectors.
Beyond maritime routes, both countries are also preparing to launch direct air routes. Two Pakistani private airlines have already received approval to operate flights to Dhaka, and scheduling and logistics are being finalized. Ishaq Dar expressed optimism that these flights will strengthen business and tourism ties between the two nations.
This initiative marks a significant milestone in expanding South Asian regional trade and deepening Pakistan-Bangladesh economic relations.
