The National Board of Revenue (NBR) is seeing a significant rise in revenue collection. In July, the first month of the 2025-26 fiscal year, revenue collection increased by nearly 25 percent compared to the same month last year, according to a press release issued by the agency on Wednesday.
The release stated that revenue collected in July amounted to BDT 27,249 crore, compared to BDT 21,916 crore in the same month of the previous fiscal year, reflecting a 24.33 percent growth in one year.
Sector-wise analysis shows that the highest revenue came from the Value Added Tax (VAT) sector, which contributed BDT 11,352 crore, a 32.45 percent increase from July last year.
Income tax and travel tax collections reached BDT 6,295 crore, compared to BDT 5,175 crore in the same period last year, marking a 21.65 percent growth.
Meanwhile, revenue from import duties stood at BDT 9,602 crore, up from BDT 8,170 crore in the same month last year, reflecting a 17.52 percent increase.
NBR attributes this positive growth in revenue collection to the expansion of business activities, taxpayer responsiveness, and strategic measures by the tax administration.
