Following the earlier seizure at Pubali Bank, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) has now confiscated two lockers belonging to former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Agrani Bank. The lockers, numbered 751 and 753, are located at the main branch in Dilkusha, Dhaka. The seizure was carried out to examine possible tax evasion and other irregularities.

Previously, on September 10, locker number 128 at Pubali Bank’s Motijheel corporate branch had been seized. With this action, a total of three lockers have now been confiscated across Agrani and Pubali Banks.

According to NBR sources, two accounts containing BDT 12 lakh and BDT 44 lakh were recovered from the Pubali Bank locker. Withdrawal of any money from the lockers has been prohibited.

A senior official of NBR’s intelligence cell stated, “The lockers and accounts have been seized in the interest of a broader investigation.”

Following the student-public uprising on August 5 last year and the fall of the Awami League government, the caretaker government began investigating allegations of tax evasion and corruption involving the former Prime Minister and her family members.
