In Dohorgaon, Golakandail Union, Rupganj upazila, Narayanganj, two separate cases have been filed after three women were tied to a tree, beaten, and had their hair cut following allegations of gold theft. Police have arrested the main accused, Selim Bhuiya, while the three women have also been taken into custody for theft allegations.

Rupganj police OC Mohammad Sabjel Hossain stated that one case concerns the abuse of the women, and the other concerns the theft allegation. Selim Bhuiya has been detained as the main accused in the abuse case. Meanwhile, Selim Bhuiya’s wife, Hamida Begum, filed a theft case against the three women, who were later arrested and sent to court.

According to police and local sources, the three women had entered Selim Bhuiya’s house, which led to accusations of gold theft. Locals reportedly detained them, after which a group of 7–8 people allegedly tied them to a tree, beat them with iron pipes and sticks, assaulted them, and cut their hair with scissors. When neighbors gathered, the attackers fled after issuing threats. The women were rescued by police and treated at Rupganj Upazila Health Complex.

The victims, originally from various districts, currently live in Hordgaon, Rupganj. They are Sumaiya Akter (32) from Jahapur, Muradnagar, Comilla; Iti Akter (28) from Khalishpur, Khulna; and Sharmin Akter (30) from Baliapara.

Iti Akter claimed that they had come to Rupganj seeking work and intended to join a local garment factory after Eid. While searching for rental accommodation in April, a dispute led to false theft allegations against them. The group allegedly attacked them, tore their clothes, tied them to a tree, and cut their hair. Police rescued them after neighbors gathered.

Sharmin Akter’s father, Lal Mia, filed a case naming Selim Bhuiya and 7–8 unidentified individuals. OC Sabjel Hossain said investigations are ongoing, with both abuse and theft allegations being taken seriously. Four arrested individuals have been sent to Narayanganj court. The incident has caused significant public outrage, with locals demanding exemplary punishment while also urging a fair investigation of the theft allegations.
