PNN News Desk | Dhaka:
The Muktijoddha Sangsad Building in Bhuapur, Tangail, constructed at a cost of BDT 25 million, is now practically inactive. On-site observations reveal that, despite standing proudly at the town’s central bus stand, the building is gradually losing its luster due to mismanagement, lack of proper supervision, and underutilization. Paint is peeling off the walls, and weeds have grown in some areas.
According to the Upazila Engineering Office, construction of the building began in February 2013 by the contractor Messrs Lucky Enterprise. After being completed at a cost of BDT 25,062,895, it was formally handed over on May 25, 2016, to Upazila Muktijoddha Commander Abdul Majid Mia.
Nearly a decade after the handover, no significant activities have taken place inside, leaving the solar system and other equipment nonfunctional. A CNG auto-rickshaw stand has been built in front of the main gate, and the SS pipe fencing has been damaged due to frequent collisions.
Former Upazila Muktijoddha Commander Abdul Majid Mia stated that internal conflicts among freedom fighters, legal complications, and the absence of an active committee have hindered the building’s use. At the time of construction, lack of proper road and public pathway approvals led to lawsuits against the responsible officials.
Upazila Acting Executive Officer Md. Rajib Hossain mentioned that he is newly familiar with the matter and that the newly appointed UNO will take steps soon.
