A tragic road accident occurred on the Chattogram-bound lane of the Dhaka-Chattogram highway on Friday (September 12) around 7:30 a.m. In front of the Baitus Sultan Jame Mosque at Thakurdighi Bazar in Mirsharai, a reckless private car rear-ended a covered van, killing two people on the spot and injuring four others.
The deceased are Golam Sarwar (42) and his three-year-old daughter, Muskan. Golam Sarwar was the son of the late Emdadul Haque from Bamnate Akkas Ali Market, Uttara, Sector 10, Road 6, Dhaka. The identities of the injured have not been immediately confirmed.
Sub-Inspector Md. Borhan Uddin of Zoraragonj Highway Police Station said the accident occurred because the driver fell asleep at the wheel. Following the accident, local people and fire service personnel rescued the victims and took them to the Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared two dead. Two of the injured have been transferred to Chattogram Medical College Hospital.
The covered van and private car have been seized, and traffic on the highway is operating normally. Police are taking legal action regarding the incident.
