A massive fire broke out at a plastic factory in the Sagarpara area of Baklia, Chattogram city on Saturday morning. The fire started suddenly at around 9 a.m.
Locals reported that moments after the fire began, it quickly spread to plastic goods and raw materials stored inside the factory. Upon receiving the news, at least six units of the fire service rushed to the scene and brought the blaze under control after about an hour and a half of effort.
According to the Senior Station Officer of Baklia Fire Station, initial suspicion is that the fire originated from an electrical short circuit. However, an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause and the extent of the damage.
Factory workers said that at the time of the incident, at least 15 workers were present inside the facility. All were evacuated safely, so no casualties occurred. However, raw materials, finished goods, and machinery were destroyed, causing extensive losses.
Police and fire service personnel have cordoned off the area, and panic prevails among local residents.
