In Narsingdi, Noor Mohammad alias Noora (28), the main accused in the abduction and murder of a teenager over demands for justice following a rape allegation, has been arrested. He was detained Friday at 9 PM from the Maona area of Gazipur. The fact was confirmed by Madhabdi Police Station OC Kamal Hossain.
Earlier, on Thursday afternoon, the body of the 15-year-old girl was recovered from a mustard field midway between Bilpara and Darikandi in Narsingdi Sadar Upazila’s Mahishashura Union. The family alleged that angered by the girl’s demands for justice in a previous rape case, she was forcibly abducted from her father’s custody and killed.
On Thursday night, the victim’s mother filed a case naming nine individuals and mentioning 2–3 unidentified persons. Among the accused are Noor Mohammad alias Noora, Ebadullah, Hazrat Ali, Md. Gaffar, Ahmad Ali Dewan, Imran Dewan, Ishaq alias Isha, Abu Taher, and Md. Ayub. Ahmad Ali Dewan is a former member of Mahishashura Union Parishad and Vice President of the local BNP.
Police said five of the accused, including Ahmad Ali Dewan, were arrested immediately, while operations to capture the remaining suspects are ongoing. Following the allegations, BNP expelled Ahmad Ali Dewan from all party positions, including primary membership.
According to the FIR, Noor was previously acquainted with the girl. Around 15 days ago, Noor allegedly led a group of youths in abducting and raping the girl. The family had approached former Union Parishad member Ahmad Ali Dewan for justice but received no remedy. Allegedly, attempts were made to cover up the incident via negotiations and monetary settlements, and the family was pressured to leave the village.
The situation escalated Wednesday night. The family stated that while taking the girl to a safe location, she was forcibly abducted by Noor and his associates near Bilpara. After a night-long search, locals found her body in the mustard field Thursday morning.
The area is now filled with outrage. Locals demand a swift and impartial investigation and exemplary punishment for all involved. Police stated that the case is being treated with utmost priority, and operations to arrest absconders are ongoing.
