Colombian winger Luis Díaz has brought an end to his three-and-a-half-year spell at Liverpool by making a high-profile move to German champions Bayern Munich. He has signed a four-year deal with the Bundesliga giants for a transfer fee of £65.5 million.

Díaz described his time at Anfield as “a departure with honor after fulfilling my duty.” In an emotional statement on Instagram, he wrote, “I arrived with the biggest dreams, and I am leaving with pride in everything we have achieved.”

Before joining Liverpool, Díaz played for Portuguese club FC Porto. He signed with the Reds in January 2022 for an initial transfer fee of £37 million. During his time at Anfield, he scored 41 goals in 148 appearances and played a key role in securing four major trophies, including the Premier League, FA Cup, and EFL Cup.

Last season was Díaz’s most successful campaign personally, as he scored 17 goals in all competitions and helped Liverpool secure the 2024–25 Premier League title.

Liverpool had initially rejected Bayern Munich’s opening offer of £58.6 million. However, they accepted the club’s second bid of £65.5 million over the weekend. As a result, Díaz was left out of Liverpool’s pre-season squad against AC Milan on Saturday. After completing his medical, the move was finalized, marking the beginning of his new chapter in Munich.

Yet, the farewell was tinged with sorrow. Díaz expressed his grief over the sudden death of teammate Diogo Jota, saying, “This would have been the perfect goodbye, had we not lost one of our own in such a tragic way. I will never forget him, and neither will we.”

With Díaz’s departure, Liverpool have earned approximately £115 million from player sales this summer. On the other hand, they have spent around £270 million ahead of the new season to bring in Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong, and Milos Kerkez.

Meanwhile, sources inside the club have confirmed that Liverpool remain interested in Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak. Notably, Isak did not join Newcastle’s Asian tour and is currently exploring transfer options.
