Kompas VC moves ahead with new fund amid global fragmentation

Even amid global political and economic divisions, Europe-based venture capital firm Kompas VC is moving forward with a new strategy for startup investment.

The firm has recently raised a new fund of 160 million euros (approximately 187 million dollars), which will be used for targeted investments across different regions.

Partner Sebastian Peck said that the global economy is currently divided among three major powers—the United States, Europe, and China. Because of differences in economic and policy directions across these regions, investment strategies must also be adjusted accordingly.

Kompas VC mainly invests in startups related to manufacturing, supply chains, infrastructure, and sustainable development. However, although there has recently been a growing trend of investment in artificial intelligence (AI) and fast-growing tech startups, the firm has not shifted away from its core focus.

According to the firm, its investment areas are primarily real-world industries where production, carbon reduction, productivity improvement, and risk management play key roles.

With the new fund, Kompas VC will be able to invest between 3 to 5 million euros in early-stage startups. With offices in various European cities, the firm has the opportunity to work closely with regional entrepreneurs.

However, global fragmentation has also created some limitations in investment. For example, in the prefabricated housing sector, the firm noted that while some technologies are popular in certain regions, they are not culturally accepted in others, creating barriers to market expansion.

Still, maintaining a long-term investment vision, Kompas VC believes that this changing global environment is creating new opportunities for small and specialized investment firms. They hope that focusing on specific sectors will lead to major success in the future.
