Kieran Quazi Leaves SpaceX at 16, Joins Citadel Securities

Kieran Quazi, who joined Elon Musk’s SpaceX as an engineer at just 14, has now left the company in search of a new challenge. After only two years, the 16-year-old prodigy is set to join U.S.-based financial firm Citadel Securities, one of the world’s leading high-frequency trading firms.

In an interview with business magazine Business Insider, Quazi said he wants to further expand his skills and gain new experiences by working in a different high-pressure environment.

After graduating as the youngest student from Santa Clara University in California, Quazi worked in SpaceX’s Starlink division. There, he contributed to software development that controls satellites and helps provide seamless internet access to millions of people worldwide.

This time, however, he is choosing a different field—the finance sector. According to Kieran, the fast-paced nature of Citadel Securities, along with the opportunity to see rapid results, attracted him.

He said, “Quant finance offers intellectual challenges similar to AI research, but the impact and results are visible in a very short time. You can measure the success of your work within days, which inspires me.”

Analysts note that Kieran’s decision highlights how top AI labs and tech companies are now competing with the finance sector to attract talented engineers.
