Khulna City Corporation Announces BDT 7.19 Billion Budget for 2025-26 Fiscal Year

The Khulna City Corporation (KCC) has announced its budget for the 2025-26 fiscal year, totaling BDT 7,195,036,000. The budget was unveiled on Thursday, September 11, at 11:30 a.m. in the Shahid Altaf Auditorium by the city administrator and divisional commissioner Md. Firoz Sarkar.

The proposed budget estimates revenue income at BDT 4,559,373,000 and revenue expenditure at BDT 2,776,577,000. No new taxes have been introduced.

In the previous fiscal year, KCC’s proposed budget target was BDT 9,819,978,000, which was revised to BDT 6,182,507,000. The implementation rate of the budget was 68.94% for the own-fund allocation and 48.34% for the development fund.

KCC Director Firoz Sarkar described the budget as development-oriented, emphasizing improvements in drainage systems, waterlogging prevention, healthcare, and waste management, as well as the maintenance of city corporation infrastructure. The budget also includes expansion of citizen services, modernization of parks and markets, dengue awareness campaigns, climate change compensation, and infrastructure development in slum areas.

He further stated that although the establishment expenditure has increased due to salary and allowance hikes for regular and master-roll employees, BDT 1,148,905,000 has been allocated from the revenue stream. Of this, BDT 1,002,305,000 is for development projects, BDT 146,600,000 for maintenance, and BDT 79,000,000 for capital expenditure.

The budget announcement ceremony was attended by the family of Shahid Sheikh Md. Sakib Raihan, former mayor and freedom fighter Md. Moniruzzaman Moni, acting chief executive Sharif Asif Rahman, budget officer, chief planning officer, chief engineer, and other officials.
