Khaled Saifullah, joint convener and head of Policy & Research Wing of the National Citizens Party (NCP), has resigned from the party. He submitted a brief letter to party convener Nahid Islam notifying his decision. A copy was also sent to party secretary Akhtar Hossain.
Earlier, his wife Tasnim Zara, senior joint secretary of NCP, also resigned. She had been nominated as NCP’s candidate for Dhaka-9. The resignations came just before the formal announcement of NCP’s electoral alliance with Jamaat-e-Islami.
Tasnim Zara plans to contest as an independent candidate in Dhaka-9, with active support from Khaled Saifullah. Khaled Saifullah holds a law degree from Dhaka University and a postgraduate degree from Oxford University. His resignation, along with at least seven others, has raised discussions on NCP’s political stance and upcoming electoral strategy.
