Islamic Parties Move Towards Unity: Announcement by Charmanai Pir

he country’s Islamic political parties are moving towards forming an alliance for the upcoming national elections, said Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim, Amir of Islami Andolan Bangladesh and Charmanai Pir. He stated that the initiative to bring together patriotic and humanitarian forces on a single platform has nearly reached its final stage.

He made the remarks during a press conference held on Monday afternoon at the IAB Auditorium in Purana Paltan, Dhaka. The conference was organized to demand the holding of national elections based on the July Charter, implementation of the PR system, justice for fascist forces, and ensuring equal opportunity in elections.

The Charmanai Pir said, “We had already announced our effort to unite Islamic parties under one umbrella. Alhamdulillah, that initiative is now very close to success.”

During the press conference, Islami Andolan Bangladesh announced five demands and a three-day program. The demands include: organizing elections based on the July Charter, implementing the PR system, ensuring a level playing field in elections, visible justice for genocide, and trial of the National Party and the 14-party alliance in a special tribunal.

According to the announced program, demonstrations and rallies will be held in Dhaka on September 18, in divisional cities on September 19, and in districts and sub-districts on September 26.

Referring to the involvement of the National Civic Party (NCP) in the movement, Mufti Rezaul Karim said, “They have agreed with us on the legal basis of the July Charter.” He also added that if the demands are not met, a series of more stringent programs will follow.

The Charmanai Pir expressed hope that the unity of Islamic parties will put pressure on the government and further strengthen the movement alongside the participants of the 2024 people’s uprising.
