Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir has announced a 28-member full panel to contest the upcoming Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) elections. The announcement was made on Monday (August 18), the last day for submitting nomination papers, at a press conference held at the Sir Nawab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building, Dhaka University, by the organization’s Central General Secretary Nurul Islam Saddam.
On the panel, Sadik Qayem, the organization’s Central Publication Secretary and former president of DU Shibir, has been nominated for the position of Vice President (VP). SM Farhad, the current president of the Dhaka University branch, has been nominated for General Secretary (GS), while Mahyuddin Khan, the branch’s General Secretary, has been nominated for Assistant General Secretary (AGS).
The panel also includes several notable candidates. Among them is Khan Jasim, a student who lost his eyesight during the July mass uprising, nominated for International Secretary. Additionally, visually impaired student Raisul Islam from Bijoy Ekattor Hall will contest for a member position.
Other nominees on the panel include: Iqbal Haider for Science & Technology Secretary; Umme Salma for Common Room–Reading Room & Cafeteria Secretary; Fatima Tasnim Juma for Liberation War & Democratic Movement Secretary; Nurul Islam Sabbir for Literature & Culture Secretary; Arman Hossain for Sports Secretary; Asif Abdullah for Student Transport Secretary; Shariful Islam Muaz for Social Service Secretary; Sajjad Hossain Khan for Research & Publication Secretary; Majharul Islam for Career Development Secretary; Abdullah Al Minhaj for Health & Environment Secretary; and Sakhawat Zakaria for Human Rights & Legal Affairs Secretary.
In addition, 13 more members will contest for member positions on the panel. At the press conference, Nurul Islam Saddam said, “We believe that the university administration will conduct the election on the scheduled date in a fair, peaceful, and secure environment.”
